Tonight on TV: the comedy that beat Top Gun at the box office

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Gérard Depardieu and Pierre Richard are on the run.

After La Chèvre and Les Compères, the duo of the big brute played by Gérard Depardieu and the bumbling played by Pierre Richard find themselves in front of the lens of Francis Veber in 1986 for Les Fugitives.

Goldsmith of popular comedy made in France, the director signs a nice conclusion to his cult trilogy thanks to his hectic pace, his chiseled dialogues and the obvious complicity that reigns between the two headliners. Alongside them, note the presence of Jean Carmet, nominated for the César for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance, as well as a cameo by Michel Blanc, in the role of Doctor Gilbert.

At the box office, The fugitives attracts more than 4 million spectators, occupying the sixth place of the most viewed films in France during the year 1986. At the time, it exceeded the score of the equally cult Top Gun, which notably propelled Tom Cruise to the rank of international star. Indeed, the American blockbuster attracted “only” 3.5 million French people.

In terms of user ratings on AlloCiné, The fugitives also exceeds Top Gun with an average of 3.6 out of 5 (against 3.1 out of 5 for Tony Scott’s feature film).
