Tonight on TV: The day Lady Gaga exploded at the cinema

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Bradley Cooper’s first production.

In 2015, Bradley Cooper took over the reins of a project initiated by his mentor Clint Eastwood: the remake of A Star Is Born by William A. Wellman. He is then convinced that Lady Gaga, better known for her musical career and her happenings, is made for the leading female role. But Warner does not believe it, considering other names, including Selena Gomez, Kesha, Shakira or Esperanza Spalding. To make them change their minds, Bradley Cooper records a duet with Lady Gaga on “Midnight Special“, a song by the country-blues group Creedence Clearwater Revival. The incredible chemistry of the two artists immediately won the support of the producers.

A Star Is Born arrives on the screens in 2018. For his first steps behind the camera, Bradley Cooper reveals to the spectators an unknown facet, because without artifice, of his partner on the screen. If Lady Gage had already appeared in several fictions (Men in Black III, Machete Kills, American Horror Story: Hotel), here she holds her first major role in the cinema, in addition to co-signing the film’s soundtrack. Nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress, the young woman won Best Original Song for the title “Shallow“.

Haloed by an average spectator rating of 4.1 out of 5, A Star Is Born is also honored with around sixty awards. On the box office side, the film conquered an international audience, totaling 434 million dollars in revenue worldwide, including 2 million admissions in France. Building on this success, Lady Gaga continued her film career by joining the five-star cast of House of Gucci, directed by Ridley Scott. Recently, the pop star was announced as the iconic Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the second installment of Joker.
