Tonight on TV: the director of Les Fugitives finds Depardieu

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. This evening: a comedy with Jean Reno and Gérard Depardieu.

In 2003, Francis Veber continued his saga of mismatched duets with Shut up!, after opposing Lino Ventura and Jacques Brel in L’Emmerdeur, then Gérard Depardieu and Pierre Richard in Les Fugitives.

Sixteen years after this last film, he calls again his favorite actor (which marks their fifth collaboration together), as well as Jean Reno, whom he finds eight years after The Jaguar. It is definitely a long way from the time when Gérard Depardieu had to put up with the clumsiness of Pierre Richard!

After having played the accomplice of François Pignon and François Perrin, the actor changes his hat and becomes the idiot on duty. Alongside a vengeful and grumpy Jean Reno, he continues to beat the crap out of everyone, but with an almost touching innocence, and a stupidity that smashes all records.

It is clear that the mechanics still work just as well: in line with Francis Veber’s previous comedies, Shut your mouth ! is both funny and touching, relying on the impeccable interpretation of its two stars.

Shut your mouth ! by Francis Veber with Jean Reno, Gérard Depardieu, André Dussollier…

Tonight on TMC at 8:50 p.m.
