Tonight on TV: the film that made Christophe Lambert immortal

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a cult fantasy film from the 80s in which Christophe Lambert stars opposite Sean Connery.

Have you never heard of the fantasy film Highlander? So book your Tuesday evening quickly and tune in to C8, because it’s a little classic from the 80s that will be revealed before your amazed eyes! Led by Christophe Lambert and Sean Connery, just that, Highlander is a cult film, a real one!

With a ban on children under 12 years old during its release in French cinemas, the feature film Highlander tells the story of Connor Macleod. Immortal, he crosses the Ages from his Scotland in 1536, multiplying encounters, experiences and battles…

Very big success in France with more than 4 million spectators in attendance, Highlander is a fantastic movie treat. Certainly, the special effects have aged somewhat, but it is impossible to dispute the undeniable charm that emerges from this very original work. There is the concept of immortality, effective action scenes, brilliant direction by Australian Russell Mulcahy (the wrestling match is remarkable in this respect), superb Scottish settings, a real atmosphere… In short, everything for high-end 80’s entertainment!

And then there is the casting, with a Christophe Lambert which, coming out of Greystoke and Subway, will become with Highlander a true international star. “In this film, there are action scenes, but the reason I shot it is for the romantic side of the story and the immortality. That’s the real reason for which I did Highlander”declared the actor to our microphone in 2019, when he was guest of honor at the Monaco MAGIC convention.

Christophe Lambert, Sean Connery… and Queen!

“The film has fans from 12 years old, 35 years old and even 60 years old. The film has won over three different generations of viewers, so it has continued to gain popularity, because it is a unique film”continues the actor. “We’ve never seen a film like this before, and we haven’t seen another since. Addressing the question of immortality, what it’s like to live for centuries, to see the people you love die , how we can carry this burden and continue to move forward without putting our knees on the ground, that’s what I liked about the story.”

Led by a crazy original soundtrack in which we find eight songs from the group Queen including Who Wants To Live Forever, Princes of the Universe, Gimme the Prize or A Kind of Magic, Highlander finally benefits from the imposing presence in the credits of a certain Sean Connery. Enough to bring a majestic note to the whole.

A true cult film which gave birth to several sequels and series, Highlander will soon be entitled to its reboot led by Henry Cavill who announces an “extraordinary” scenario. Proof, if any were still needed, that the original 1986 film left its mark on the collective imagination. Want to feel immortal for an evening? You know what you have left to do…
