Tonight on TV: the meeting between Virginie Efira and Niels Schneider

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Virginie Efira and Niels Schneider love and tear each other apart in a drama by Catherine Corsini.

On the advice of her producer Elisabeth Perez, Catherine Corsini looks at the novel “Un Amour impossible” by Christine Angot. If the breadth of the subject frightens her – indeed it tackles the themes of destructive passion, incest and mother-daughter relationships – the main female character, both strong and modest, fascinates her.

Alongside Laurette Polmanss and with the endorsement of the original author, Catherine Corsini brings to the big screen the unconventional love story of Rachel and Philippe, at the end of the 1950s. But to bring this tragic melody, the director has no actress in mind.

For her part, Virginie Efira, encouraged by the success of Victoria, allows herself to directly solicit the filmmakers with whom she wishes to work. Thus, she approached Catherine Corsini herself to obtain the role of Rachel opposite Niels Schneider, with whom she then formed a couple in the city.

In the skin of this courageous mother, torn by the feeling of love and suffering, Virginie Efira holds, according to Télérama, her “most beautiful role to date”. Her performance is also hailed by a nomination for the César for Best Actress.

Crowned with the Alice Guy Prize, Catherine Corsini signs the feature film best rated by AlloCiné internet users among her filmography, with an average viewer rating of 3.8 out of 5.
