Tonight on TV: the movie that surprised Harry Potter fans

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the film derived from the “Harry Potter” saga.

Five years after the release of the final chapter of the adventures of Harry Potter (The Deathly Hallows – 2nd Part), the universe of the most famous wizard extends to the cinema with Fantastic Beasts. For the first time in her career, author JK Rowling is writing the screenplay, the story of which focuses on Norbert Dragonneau (Eddie Redmayne), a character already mentioned in the Harry Potter novels. Indeed, he is the author of the fictional manual “Fantastic Beasts”.

In keeping with the original franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is dark, entertaining, funny and spectacular. The best ingredients of the franchise are present: a staging by David Yates (already at the helm of the last four Harry Potter films), amazing special effects bringing fabulous creatures to life, we obviously love the Nifflers), humor so British and a good dose of good feelings. A magical world transposed to 1920s New York, beautifully reconstructed, bringing historical depth to the adventures of the new heroes.

Voted Fans’ Favorite Blockbuster at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them attracts 4 million spectators – novices or nostalgic alike – when it is released in French cinemas. The first part of a new saga, it is followed by The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018, then by The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022. Three other films are planned.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by David Yates with Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler… Tonight on TF1 at 9:10 p.m.
