Tonight on TV: the movie with real moooonde champions!

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. This evening: the first episode of the adventures of the Sentier gang.

In the early 1990s, Michel Munz and Gérard Bitton wrote the screenplay for La Vérité si je mens together, inspired by the destiny of the Franco-Pakistani designer Mehmood Bhatti, who, after arriving in Paris penniless, quickly climbed the ladder to become one of the best artisans of the Sentier and one of the darlings of Parisian nights.

But at the time, no production company wanted to risk producing this film whose subject (the Jewish community and its relationship to money) was considered taboo. In January 1995, thanks to the success of Péril Jeune by Cédric Klapisch, the production company Vertigo nevertheless obtained greater financial means to agree to launch this project. They entrust the production to Thomas Gilou, who has just shot the film Raï for them with Samy Naceri and Tabatha Cash.

Audience award at the 1997 Alpe d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival, La Vérité si je mens attracted 4.9 million spectators when it was released in theaters. A well-deserved success for a work just as cult as Le Dîner de cons or Les trois frères, and which has also been extended through three other opuses. A lucrative recipe which is essentially due to its hilarious cast (Richard Anconina, Richard Bohringer, Vincent Elbaz, Bruno Solo, Gilbert Melki, José Garcia, Elie Kakou, Amira Casar, Aure Atika…) and its unforgettable valves. Champion of the Moooonde!

The Truth if I Lie by Thomas Gilou with Richard Anconina, Vincent Elbaz, Bruno Solo…

Tonight on W9 at 9:05 p.m.
