Tonight on TV: the very physical role of Bob Odenkirk

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: The ‘Better Call Saul’ star plays action hero.

Appearing in the series Breaking Bad, in the skin of the crooked lawyer Saul Goodman, Bob Odenkirk then becomes the star of the spin-off centered around his character. Noted for his performance, the 58-year-old actor then surprised the public by taking his first steps in an action film with Nobody. A territory hitherto unknown for the actor who precisely wanted to get out of his comfort zone: he who was a speaker in Better Call Saul now makes his fists speak … and the powder.

Also officiating as a producer, Bob Odenkirk lends his features to Hutch Mansell, a seemingly normal family man, who nevertheless has physical skills worthy of Jason Bourne or John Wick. Following a burglary and a fight on a bus, he finds himself embroiled in a spiral of violence against the Russian mafia…

In order to live up to his role, the actor trained for two years, long before the pre-production of the film, because he wanted to perform his own stunts himself (at the image of Jackie Chan, of whom he is a great admirer: without lining or special effects). It was Daniel Bernhardt, the fight manager who officiated on John Wick and Atomic Blonde, who took charge of his training, with, as a reference, the character of Wolverine.

Filled with adrenaline, nobody was concocted by a team specializing in action films: indeed, written by Derek Kolstad (John Wick) and produced by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde), it is directed by Ilya Naishuller, to whom we owe the supercharged Hardcore Henry. This new feature film is no exception to the rule, with strong action scenes, starting with the particularly realistic bus scene.

Note the presence of the legendary Christopher Lloyd in the role of the hero’s father, as well as the famous rapper RZA in that of his brother. On AlloCine, nobody holds an average viewer rating of 3.7 out of 5.
