Tonight on TV: this tender comedy that went unnoticed in the cinema

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a dramatic comedy in which Arnaud Ducret plays a confident man bonding with his nephew with Asperger’s syndrome.

Third feature film by the duo François Prévôt-Leygonie-Stéphan Archinard after Friendships sincere and Tout schuss, Monsieur Je-sais-tout went almost unnoticed in cinemas when it was released in 2018 (with just over 190,000 admissions). Its broadcast this evening on TFX is therefore an opportunity to catch up with this tender comedy.

Adapted from the novel by Alain Gillot, entitled “The Surface of repair” (published by Flammarion in 2015), the film relates the meeting, then the relationship that develops between Vincent Barteau, football coach and inveterate bachelor, and his nephew Léo , 13 years old, autistic Asperger’s and distinguished chess player. The directors thus find there the theme, which has always been at the heart of their work: that of filiation and transmission. In addition, they address a subject that is still rarely mentioned on screen, that of Asperger’s syndrome.

Like the Toledano-Nakache tandem, François Prévôt-Leygonie and Stéphan Archinard explore this subject with benevolence, without outrageous pathos, helped by the masterful performances of Arnaud Ducret (who changes here from his usual comic register) and the young Max Baissette de Malglaive, which clearly steals the show. In the vein of Rain Man, to which he also refers, Know-it-all is a feel-good movie full of emotions, which turns out to be the duo’s best-rated feature film by viewers. AlloCiné, with an average rating of 3.9 out of 5.

Monsieur Je-sais-tout by François Prévôt-Leygonie by Stephan Archinard with Arnaud Ducret, Max Baissette de Malglaive, Alice David… Tonight on TFX at 9:05 p.m.
