Tonight on TV: Tom Hanks Buddy Up With a Volleyball

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Tom Hanks on a desert island.

In 1994, Robert Zemeckis directed Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump – a successful collaboration that won 6 Oscars, including Best Director and Best Actor. Six years later, the two men reunite for Alone in the World.

Tom Hanks plays Chuck Noland, a FedEx employee castaway on an uninhabited island after his plane crashes in the South Pacific. The film chronicles his attempts to survive as well as his imaginary friendship with a volleyball, which he names Wilson.

It’s hard not to be moved by this astonishing Robinsonade for which the actor gave of himself by losing more than 20 kilos and letting his hair and beard grow. A performance that allows him to win the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama.

Note that Robert Zemeckis hired his favorite actor a few years later for The Polar Express and that they recently found themselves for a live action adaptation of Pinocchio for Disney+ in which Tom Hanks lends his features to Geppetto.

Alone in the world by Robert Zemeckis with Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt, Nick Searcy…

Tonight on 6ter at 9:05 p.m.
