Tonight on TV: When the Minions became superstars

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the return of the evil Gru and his Minions.

In 2010, Illumination Mac Guff studios presented a politically incorrect animated feature film. It’s Despicable Me, whose protagonist is none other than Gru, a supervillain surrounded by a myriad of underlings armed to the teeth. These famous Minions, which did not appear in the original idea of the film, quickly become the favorite creatures of the animators – and the spectators. Despicable Me was a resounding worldwide success, grossing over $540 million.

Three years later, Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud present the second part of their adventures. We find there the joyfully irreverent humor of the first opus, an important technical advance in terms of rendering of materials and lights in the image, a feel-good soundtrack by Pharrell Williams, but above all, the Minions, even crazier , which hold a central place for our greatest pleasure (and for our greatest laughter).

Nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, Despicable Me 2 was a big hit around the world, grossing $970 million. In France, it totals 4.6 million admissions.
