Tonight on TV: Will Smith finds the role that revealed him

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Will Smith and Martin Lawrence ready to blow up Miami.

Sony Pictures Releasing France

Sequel to Bad Boys and Bad Boys II, directed by Michael Bay in 1995 then in 2003, Bad Boys For Life lands on the screens in 2020. For this third opus, the famous director gives way to the Belgians Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who explore in particular the way in which the characters, interpreted by the fifty-year-old Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, approach their aging.

Will Smith thus takes over the role which launched his career in the cinema in 1995. He then imposed himself in blockbusters such as Independence Day, Men in Black, Enemy of State or even I am a legend. Becoming one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood, he also received critical acclaim thanks to Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness.

If several of his projects were poorly received during the 2010s, the actor went up the slope in 2019 with Aladdin, which became the biggest success of his career at the box office, then with Bad Boys For Life, whose $424 million in worldwide revenue exceeds the scores of previous installments. With an average viewer rating of 3.3 out of 5, this is the highest rated episode of the saga on AlloCiné.

Started in the process, the fourth opus of bad boys, however, is on hold, like most of Will Smith’s projects. Consequence of the slap that the actor gave Chris Rock on the stage of the 94th Academy Awards, where he had just been awarded Best Actor for his performance in The Williams Method.

Bad Boys For Life by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah with Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens…
