Tonight on TV: without equaling the versions of Alexandre Astier, this adventure of Asterix is worth a detour

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the adaptation of a comic strip.

In order to penetrate the American market, the German studio Extrafilm wishes to adapt an Asterix album in an animated version. On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, the production team is logically focusing on The Great Crossingtwenty-second album of the cult comic book by Goscinny/Uderzo.

In this opus, Asterix and Obelix, gone to sea to catch fresh fish, fail after a storm in Armorica. During this adventure, they meet Indians, cross paths with Vikings, then return home for the traditional banquet.

Based on an idea by Pierre Tchernia and Albert Uderzo, German screenwriters Thomas Platt and Rhett Rooster reworked the story to focus on the first part. The one where our two irreducible Gauls land on mysterious lands, of which no one suspected the existence.

If Asterix and the Indians (originally produced under the title Asterix in America) is less known than the other films dedicated to the little Gallic hero, it is nonetheless very pleasant to watch.

The spirit of the comic strip is perfectly respected, especially in terms of humor, and the drawings are simple but neat. We also remember the music of Zouk Machine and some sequences animated by computer, revolutionary for the time.

Released in 1994, Asterix and the Indians attracted more than 1 million French people to cinemas.
