Tonight on TV: Zero plus Zero equals… do you have it?

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. This evening: the adaptation of the comic strip with 5 million copies with Guillaume de Tonquédec and Ramzy Bedia.

Inspired by the success of the Ducobu saga and drawing on his experience on Boule & Bill 2, Pascal Bourdiaux is embarking on his own cinematic adaptation of a comic book in 2020. He sets his sights on Toto’s Jokeswritten by Thierry Coppée and sold over 5 million copies.

The writing of the screenplay is entrusted to the duo Leimdo & Restier, before being enriched by the collaboration of Mathias Gavarry, screenwriter of The Profs (another popular comic book adaptation). Together, they imagine a story like a sprinkler: absolute master of jokes of all kinds, Toto finds himself the victim of a mistake he did not commit. With his friends, he decides to investigate to find the real culprits…

Rather than sticking to the universe and comic strip imagery, Pascal Bourdiaux has chosen to anchor this mischievous character, interpreted by Gavril Dartevelle, in the heart of a very contemporary environment. It even addresses a social theme through an RJP boss who governs the lives of the inhabitants of the small town where Toto lives. Thus, in addition to the hero’s jokes and the presence of tasty supporting roles (Ramzy Bedia as a megalomaniac boss and Daniel Prévost as a prankster grandpa), the film relies on its modern and realistic aspect, offering greater identification to the viewer.

A winning bet since, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Les Blagues de Toto is one of those French films that exceeded one million admissions at the 2020 box office – with Ducobu 3 and 10 days without mom. This success obviously prompted a sequel project.

In Les Jokes de Toto 2 – classe verte, which is scheduled for release on August 2, the little boy and his comrades are back, heading for the countryside! The perfect opportunity to invent new jokes and live crazy adventures. Especially since the farmers who welcome them seem a little dodgy, and it is said that a ghost is lurking in the area… Toto intends to investigate, and he has more than one trick up his sleeve. !

Toto’s Jokes by Pascal Bourdiaux with Gavril Dartevelle, Guillaume De Tonquédec, Anne Marivin…
