(Re)discover “The Jungle Book”, the last feature film in which Walt Disney himself participated, rightly considered by fans of the enchanted studio as one of its greatest classics.
Deep in the Indian jungle, while making his routine rounds, Bagheera the panther is alerted by an unusual sound: the cry of a baby like no other, that of a man’s cub. Not knowing what to do with him, Bagheera decides to entrust him to a welcoming family of wolves, who raise him like one of them.
But about ten years later, while the young boy named Mowgli has grown up, terrible news makes the company of wolves shudder: the tiger Shere Kahn is said to be back in the jungle, and is after the man’s cub. . Faced with the urgency of the situation, Bagheera then offers to lead Mowgli himself to safety among his true people, in the nearest village.
At the end of the 1960s, before his tragic and premature death, Walt Disney invested himself completely in three projects that were particularly close to his heart: the Disneyland park, newly inaugurated near Los Angeles, the release of Mary Poppins, which represented for him a real standoff with the author PL Travers, and the development of his very latest animated classic.
The final feature film in which Walt participated, The Jungle Book was released in theaters in 1967, less than a year after the death of its creator and – perhaps also because of this sad context – made absolutely everyone agreement.
A true critical and commercial success, the studio’s 19th animated classic almost immediately became one of the must-haves of the great Disney family. Benefiting from a magnificent stroke of the pencil (the culmination of three decades of know-how within the prestigious studios), it offers its audience an immersive and totally exotic adventure.
