Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was on the program at Vicarious Visions

According to the sportsman whose games have accompanied a whole generation of players in the 90s, Activision has tried to entrust the production of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 to other studios, without ever finding the ideal partner. Last year, Activision surprised by announcing that the Vicarious Visions studio, despite its 30 years of seniority, was going to merge with a Blizzard in lack of manpower. While taking care of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2so Vicarious Visions employees worked on Diablo II Resurrected. Since last spring, the studio no longer exists as such and has been absorbed by Blizzard Albany, in the State of New York.

Vicarious Visions has generally remained a shadow studio despite having worked on many famous franchises including Spider-Man, Star Wars, DOOM, Guitar Hero, Skylanders, Marvel and James Bond. In recent years, the 200-person studio seemed to have found its way developing Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogya huge commercial success which had exceeded 10 million in sales at the start of 2019. After carrying Destiny 2 on PC, the studio has confirmed its talent for remasters with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 which quickly surpassed one million copies sold and even achieved the best launch of the franchise in the United States.

That was the plan until 1 and 2 launched. We were doing 3 and 4, and then Vicarious kind of got absorbed, then they looked for other developers, and then it was over. The truth is, Activision was trying to find someone to do 3 and 4, but they didn’t have the same faith in other studios they had in Vicarious. They listened to proposals from other studios to find out what they would do with THPS, but they didn’t like what they heard and then it was over. Who knows ? Maybe when the water has flowed over the bridges, we’ll find a solution. We never know. I never thought we were gonna do 1 and 2 20 years later“, explained Tony Hawk during a retransmission.
