Apple had planned to release iPadOS 16 alongside macOS and iOS in September, but the instability of Stage Manager necessitates a review of the copy.

During its last World Wild Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, Apple announced the new versions of the operating systems of its devices. As usual, the firm immediately deployed the developer beta, then the public beta before the stable version was released. It is on this last phase that the shoe pinches!

An iPadOS 16 release in October?

It was one of the flagship features of iPadOS 16 showcased during the WWDC Launch Keynote. Stage Manager promised to revolutionize multitasking on the iPad by finally allowing the resizing of application windows. This novelty reserved for the iPad M1, particularly awaited, has been talked about a lot, but it seems that it is not over!

The information comes from the very informed Mark Gurmann, journalist of Bloomberg. Apple is reportedly planning to postpone the rollout of the latest iPadOS update for a month because of Stage Manager. Luckily, this shouldn’t impact iOS 16’s September release date. That of macOS Ventura should not be postponed either, despite the presence of the new window manager. Indeed, on Macs, the feature seems more stable than on tablets.

An offbeat release for the different OSes of the apple brand would be a first. Usually, all operating systems are released at the same time on compatible devices.

Stage Manager would also postpone the release of the next devices

The postponement of the iPadOS deployment, which follows numerous criticisms from developers and testers, may also lead to a change in the date for the release of the next iPads. Rumor has it that a new batch of iPad Pros and an iPad are in the works. For the high-end iteration, the M2 chip of the latest MacBook Air should be included and for the “classic” iPad, a USB-C port would be provided. Indeed, it seems difficult to imagine a launch of new devices without the latest version of Apple’s in-house software.

Stage Manager was just one of many changes announced at Cupertino in June. For the iPad, this innovative window manager came with better support for external displays, which was sorely lacking despite the USB-C port. Similarly, an overhaul of the iWork suite is planned and the weather application, which had never been entitled to its tablet version, should also be included.
