"Too innocent, too gay"
Joe Exotic railed against Trump
For months, the imprisoned Joe Exotic hopes to be pardoned by Donald Trump. Shortly before the end of his term in office, he actually released a few people from prison, but the "Tiger King" was not among them. This prompts the 57-year-old to a reproachful tweet.
"Tiger King" star Joe Exotic was not pardoned by ex-US President Donald Trump as he and his legal team had hoped. The former zoo owner thinks he knows the reason for this: "I was too innocent and too gay to deserve a pardon from Trump," he wrote provocatively on Twitter. He also apparently feels exploited by Trump: "I was only important to Don Jr. if he had to comment on me in order to strengthen his social media post," speculates Joe Exotic.
Seriously disappointed, the former big cat owner continues to address his followers: "Boy, were we all stupid to believe that he actually stands for equality? Instead, all of his corrupt friends came first." He is probably alluding to Trump's pardon of his former chief strategist Steve Bannon. But it is unlikely that Trump will read all of this, as his Twitter account has been banned for life by the operators.
Rappers were luckier
The other pardons included the rappers Kodak Black and Lil Wayne, who had shown himself at Trump's side during the election campaign. The 38-year-old could face up to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to illegal gun possession in Florida in December. Kodak Black is also behind bars for illegal possession of weapons and drugs.
Joe Exotic has been serving a 22-year prison sentence since 2019 for hiring someone, according to the court, to murder his arch-enemy Carole Baskin. The former operator of a private zoo with big cats became known through the Netflix series "Big Cats and Their Predators", which is called "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness" in the original English. He had already written to Trump several times and asked for a pardon. He also wrote to Kim Kardashian and Cardi B and asked them to help. So far this has also been unsuccessful.
