Too many incidents – Steyregg wants to close the youth asylum accommodation

After the incidents in a Steyregger asylum home for minors, Mayor Gerhard Hintringer called a security summit. If he has his way, the number of carers should initially be increased when there are fewer residents, but in the long term they would like to see the entire home abandoned.

As the “Krone” reported, there had been numerous incidents in the home for underage refugees – the fire alarm had been triggered incorrectly more than ten times. The last straw came when female volunteers from the Steyregger fire department reported that they had been harassed by residents while extinguishing a burning garbage container on December 27th. Community wants dissolutionMayor Gerhard Hintringer (SPÖ) would like to see fewer residents and more carers in the home for the time being be supervised – in the long term the accommodation should be completely abandoned. However, the final word is spoken at the federal level, namely by the operator of the home, the Federal Care Agency (BBU). Big summit meeting on ThursdayTheir managing director, Andreas Achreiner, is traveling to Steyregg especially for the meeting on Thursday, January 11th. “We have no plans to close the accommodation,” said BBU spokesman Thomas Fussenegger. “We are trying to find an amicable solution and to relieve Steyregg.” The mayor and the two deputy mayors will also be present. Representatives of the Steyregg volunteer fire department and the district police command are also invited. The number of residents has already been reduced. The BBU has already drawn the first conclusions from the incidents: 15 residents have already been moved to other homes, including the suspected trigger of the false alarms. There are now only 79 young people living in the facility, and there have been further incidents since the last false alarm on December 28th there were no more legal consequences. The events of December 27th will also have a legal consequences: some complaints were filed with the Linz public prosecutor’s office regarding the obstruction of emergency services. However, it is questionable whether there will be any convictions for this minor offense.
