Invited on the set of LCI this Monday, January 17, the epidemiologist Martin Blachier denounced the attitude of certain media, which would have “boycotted” him for his “reassuring” remarks on the Omicron wave.
He is the “reassuring” face of the Omicron wave. For many months, Martin Blachier strives to minimize the risks of the South African variant to the media, declaring in particular that the increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 would not necessarily result in saturation of hospitals. An attitude far from being appreciated by all, and which would have even earned him a boycott in certain media…
In any case, this is what the epidemiologist advances. Guest on the set of David Pujadas this Monday, January 17 on LCI, Martin Blachier said he was shunned by some media because of his own judged “too reassuring” on the South African variant. “I was harshly criticized but I was also boycotted by certain media because there are experts who asked certain media that I should no longer be invited. I was not invited for at least a month, a month and a half, in the media where I went almost daily, so yes it was hard“, he confided to David Pujadas before thanking him: “You are one of the only ones, and I thank you for having done so, to have looked at the bottom of what was said, without trying to fit it into an ideology or to put people in boxes.”
Martin Blachier: 467 media interventions in one year
Despite this presumed boycott, Martin Blachier is one of the most publicized epidemiologists of this period of health crisis. According to a count made by The world, the scientist would have intervened 467 times between April 2020 and April 2021.
