Historical enclosure of Paris Saint-Germain, the Parc des Princes is however in the crosshairs of the Qatari leaders of the club. While they initially wanted to buy it back from the city of Paris to enlarge it, the sum claimed pushes them to explore other avenues up to a pure and simple move.
Paris Saint-Germain is tired of the Parc des Princes. Located in the 16th arrondissement of the capital, the enclosure, however strong of 48,000 places, is considered too small by the Parisian leaders. The latter are evaluating, in any case, the possibility of packing up and leaving the club’s historic lair.
Initially, QSI, the Qatari investment fund at the head of PSG, intended to buy the Parc des Princes from the city of Paris to then launch expansion work. But despite the colossal means available to the owners of the club, the sum claimed by the town hall – which is around 350 million euros – is considered far too high. As a result, PSG are considering alternative solutions.
A new stadium in Poissy or Saint-Cloud?
The first would be to move to the Stade de France, the largest showcase in the country with 80,000 seats. The State, which is precisely seeking to sell the enclosure located in Saint-Denis, would also push in this direction. The second option would be to build a new stadium elsewhere.
So far, two sites have been identified. It could be in Poissy in the Yvelines, around the club’s future training center, or at the Saint-Cloud racecourse in the Hauts-de-Seine. At this stage, it is difficult to disentangle the bluff from the real threat. For now, negotiations for the takeover of the Parc des Princes are still ongoing.
