Top Chef 2021: this trompe l'oeil dish of a candidate disgusts Internet users: Femme Actuelle The MAG

In the third episode of Top Chef, broadcast on Wednesday February 24 on M6, a candidate particularly disconcerted the jury during the trompe-l'oeil test. While he had to make a dessert in the form of an apparently inedible object, Arnaud had an idea that will earn him enter the annals of the show. From preparation to training, he redoubled his daring and took up a very risky bet which did not convince chef Andoni Aduriz.

Arnaud's trompe-l'oeil dessert

During this test, the Spanish chef Andoni Aduriz proposed to the candidates to create trompe-l'oeil desserts, his specialty. The starred chef is renowned for his desserts in the form of soap, rotten fruit, stone or even textiles, with extremely well-crafted finishes. If the candidates had fun making false piles of sand, sponges or trompe-l'oeil candles, Arnaud had an idea to say the least … scatological. The young man decided to take up the challenge with sob dish proudly baptized "the toilet bowl". A first in the history of the show."A poo, a roll of toilet paper, sheets of toilet paper", all made from completely edible ingredients. The" poop "is made from chocolate cream, mixed with a little Espelette pepper and cocoa nibs. To make the bottom of the toilet, he imagined stagnant water colored with infused black tea, cinnamon, ginger and Amaretto. And for the roll of toilet paper, the candidate opted for a Joconde cookie filled with peanut nougatine, lemon and caramel, while the sheet of toilet paper is made from leaves of tonka bean and vanilla milk, which he has taken care to cut for more realism when dressing.

An idea that does not appeal to the jury

From the moment he matured this absurd idea to the finishing touches, Arnaud executed his trompe-l'oeil with a masterful hand and with a lot of humor. If the tastes and arrangements had everything to seduce, the chefs could not say the same about the dressage. He mounted his unique poop-shaped chocolate mousse on his plate and traced in front of what one might colloquially call a "brake trace". He covered everything with his infusion in different shades of brown and placed his toilet paper cookie and the leaf that went with it on the edge of the bowl.

If the dessert was perfectly executed, it was (unsurprisingly) not to the taste of chef Andoni Aduriz, who rightly refused to taste it and eliminated it for its unappetizing visual aspect. All this while specifying that it was not necessary to come to these ends. Michel Sarran, Arnaud's coach this season, for his part had fun with this idea and even found that the dessert was quite good. If he will not have won against Matthias' candlestick which conquered the chef's heart, he will at least have succeeded in entertaining Internet users who greatly appreciated this unprecedented moment on a French cooking show.
