Since September 5, viewers have been discovering the eighth edition of Objectif Top Chef. But one detail has not gone unnoticed: the Top Chef Academy is no longer relevant. Philippe Etchebest explains why.
It was the great novelty of last year. For its seventh season, Top Chef objective kicked off its Top Chef Academy. The goal ? Preparing apprentices and amateurs for the excellence required Top chef. And for good reason, since the launch of this access program, Philippe Etchebest offers to whoever wins Top Chef objectivehis ticket for the prestigious M6 competition presented by Stéphane Rotenberg. And since the creation of the brigades, it is therefore directly in that of Philippe Etchebest that the lucky one lands. But no question for the MOF and starred chef to bring in Top chef a candidate who does not have the shoulders for this high-flying competition.
It is therefore for this, that he had invited the nine best ofTop Chef objective to join the Top Chef Academy during which they had to reproduce mythical tests such as the black box. And for the occasion, they were coached and judged by former Top cheflike Mohamed Cheikh, Matthias Marc and Sarah Mainguy, but also by starred chefs. Intensive training that allowed Pascal Barandoni to spark in the last edition of Top chef, where he returned his apron in the quarter-finals. “We did not go far from victory with Pascal“, rejoiced Philippe Etchebest, before recognizing: “God knows that the Objectif Top Chef training was hard for him. I didn’t give him a gift because I knew he had the ability to go far. The best reward he could offer me is his speech during his elimination. It moved me a lot.“
Philippe Etchebest wanted to “move on to something else”
But against all odds, Philippe Etchebest has decided not to renew his Top Chef Academy. In question ? His desire not to be in repetition. “It was a super interesting novelty. So you’re going to ask me why I stopped him. Precisely because we wanted to move on“, simply lets go of the one who now works in pairs with Pierre Chomet. Which should not prevent the winner fromTop Chef objective to go far in the competition Top chef. Philippe Etchebest still hopes that one of his foals will achieve this feat. “This is my ultimate goal. The Graal (…) When I take someone with me, I want to take them as far as possible. Not for me but for him. This motivation that I have every time makes me cross all these barriers with the candidates“, he admits. It remains to be seen whether this year will be the right one.
