Top Gun 3: Tom Cruise returns in the sequel, in preparation at Paramount

We’re not really surprised, but it’s still excellent news: a sequel to Top Gun: Maverick is currently in preparation by Paramount Pictures. The ever-present Tom Cruise will obviously be at the heart of this “Top Gun 3”, which will also see the return of director Joseph Kosinski. We take stock.

Tom Cruise gets laid (again)

A few days after signing an agreement with Warner Bros to develop original films and franchises, Tom Cruise is returned to his cockpit, and to the side of Paramount, for a Top Gun 3 highly anticipated. A sequel which will also see him reunite with actors Miles Teller and Glenn Powell, his co-stars from Top Gun: Maverick.

So few details are yet known about the film, currently being written by Ehren Kruger (Top Gun: Maverick, Ghost in the Shell), we do know, however, that this sequel will be produced again by Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison.

Talented director Joseph Kosinski is also attached to the project as a producer, and may return to direct, although nothing has apparently been decided yet.

This “Top Gun 3” adds to an already busy schedule for Tom Cruise. The American actor is currently filming Mission Impossible 8 for Paramount, and is still preparing the film Luna Park by Doug Liman for Universal Pictures, which will see him film in space (yes yes). For its part, the Warner studio hopes to see it prepare a Edge of Tomorrow 2.

Released in July 2022, Top Gun: Maverick was a real global hit, with 1.495 billion dollars collected worldwide. The film, which is the biggest success of Tom Cruise’s career, was also nominated six times for the Oscars, and won the statuette for best sound.

At 61, Cruise remains one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and one of the rare actors to attract audiences in droves to see his films. Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1released in theaters in July, had still gleaned more than $567 million at the worldwide box office.
