When we talk about Top Gun, how not to mention the absolute hit Take My Breath Away which, once in the head, we’re not going to lie to each other, doesn’t come out for a good few hours. Composed by Giorgio Moroder (to whom we also owe the soundtracks of Midnight Express, Scarface and Flashdance), interpreted by the group Berlin, the languorous love song of the film was a real hit around the world, notably winning the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1986.
35 years later is released in theaters Top Gun: Maverick and it is a megastar, Lady Gaga, who takes the controls of the song accompanying the feature film. His title : hold my hand.
“When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I hadn’t realized the multiple layers it covered through the heart of the film, my own psyche and the nature of the world we live in.”says Lady Gaga. “I worked on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it our own. I wanted to make the music a song where we share our deep need both to be understood and to try to understand each other – a desire to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes.”
If the notes of Berlin and Lady Gaga have resounded in the four corners of the globe, we should not forget that a cover of Take My Breath Away has also emerged in our regions. Composed and performed by Gerard Lenormanshe is baptized The blue of regrets. A version to listen to below and which begins as follows: “I have memories that fly away like fighter jets…”
Finally, let’s mention, in the Top Gun soundtrack, the excellent piece Top Gun Anthem composed by German Harold Faltermeyeralso known for signing the cult instrumental Axel F Beverly Hills Cop.
