35 years after the huge T tubeake My Breath Away, performed by Berlin (Oscar for best original song), Lady Gaga takes control of the song that will accompany the release of the sequel to Top Gun! The American singer has just revealed hold my hand.

Listen to this unreleased track in full:

On Instagram, Lady Gaga explains: “When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I hadn’t realized the multiple layers it covered through the heart of the film, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we live in. I worked on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours. I wanted to make the music a song where we share our deep need both to be understood and to try to understand each other – a desire to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate the heroes of the life.

I am very grateful to Tom, Hans and Joe for this opportunity, and it was a great experience to work with them. BloodPop, Ben Rice, myself and everyone who worked on it are very excited to share it with you. This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very difficult time. I wanted you to listen to it for so long. And I’m so excited to let you discover it on May 3rd. “Hold My Hand.”

Note that for the soundtrack of the film, Harold Faltermeyer and Hans Zimmer are announced.

The pitch for this sequel goes like this: After being one of the US Navy’s top fighter pilots for more than thirty years, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, aka Tom Cruise, continues to push his limits as a fighter pilot. He refuses to move up in rank, because it would force him to give up flying. He is tasked with training a detachment of young Top Gun school graduates for a special mission that no pilot would ever have imagined.

Top Gun Maverick will be released in theaters on May 25, with a preview event in Cannes beforehand, in the presence of Tom Cruise and the film crew.
