Takeoff, landing and successful mission for Top Gun Maverick. Thirty-six years after the Tony Scott film that launched his career, Tom Cruise has returned to his most iconic role – and the jacket that accompanies it – with huge success in theaters after his passage through the steps of the Cannes Film Festival last May.

At the box office, the dollars are raining (over a billion dollars in revenue, a record for the actor) while in France, entries for Maverick have already exceeded those for Top Gun (and six parts of Mission: Impossible!). On the critical side, spectators awarded their best medals to Joseph Kosinski’s feature film, with a score of more than 4.4/5 on AlloCiné, the best film of the post-COVID era.
Beyond the nostalgia that thrills this legacywhatthe spectators salute the emotion that runs through the film, between the passing of the torch with the new pilots, acceptance of the passage of time, and voluntary and very “meta” vagueness between Tom Cruise and his character for a fascinating look at his place in Hollywood and in the history of cinema.

And there are, of course, the aerial sequences, which are simply breathtaking. Tom Cruise thus truly took off, piloted and landed with his fighter plane, when his young partners underwent intensive training for several months to be able to take the maneuvers and “G” necessary for flight scenes in F/A-18. Tom Cruise and his team had promised a show never before seen on the big screen. They hadn’t lied.

This show can also be experienced on the small screen, from October 5th. On DVD, on Blu-ray but especially on Blu-ray 4K SteelBook, available for pre-order on Amazon as well as the Top Gun / Top Gun Maverick double box set. The bonuses that will accompany the film are not yet known, but we can bet that a making-of on this extraordinary shoot will be offered to dive into the heart of an unprecedented production that will have led the team to put in a box as much images than the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy (!).
