Successful takeoff for Top Gun with Tom Cruise? The first reviews have fallen and they promise breathtaking stunts and a great show! Maverick hits theaters on May 25.
A little less than a month from the release of Top Gun Maverick, the first reviews of the film with Tom Cruise have fallen. The press had preview access to the film, which will also be screened at the Cannes Film Festival, and the initial feedback has been excellent!
Top Gun was also screened last night at CinemaCon in front of an audience of professionals. Tom Cruise had even prepared a surprise: a video of him perched from an airplane to greet the public at the screening!
“One word: wow! Top Gun Maverick is amazing in every way. The action and the flight scenes are intense, constantly evolving. You’re glued to the back of your chair. I wasn’t prepared for it to be so emotional either. The crowd cheered a dozen times. It’s a real thing!“
The pitch of this sequel entitled Top Gun Maverick is as follows: after having been one of the best fighter pilots in the United States Navy for more than thirty years, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, alias Tom Cruise, continues to push his limits by as a test pilot. He refuses to rise in rank, because it would force him to give up flying. He is tasked with training a detachment of young graduates from the Top Gun school for a special mission that no pilot would have ever imagined.
For the record, Top Gun Maverick will be released in theaters on May 25, with a preview event in Cannes beforehand, in the presence of Tom Cruise and the film crew. Initially announced for the summer of 2019, Top Gun 2 was first postponed to the summer of 2020 while the actor learned to actually fly a combat plane, then to the summer of 2021 in the face of the coronavirus pandemic and finally in the fall of 2021.
