Total: enters the Dominican solar market – 06/10/2022 at 09:35

(CercleFinance.com) – Total Eren and Visolar Holding announce that they will develop, finance and operate a 100 MWac solar photovoltaic project called ‘Villarpando’ which will be located in the province of Azua, in the Dominican Republic.

The partners have now started construction work. The plant will be one of the largest foreign investments in a solar project in the Caribbean region.

Villarpando will be able to produce approximately 200 GWh per year of renewable energy, enabling the supply of approximately 135,000 people in the Dominican Republic.

The electricity produced was the subject of a 15-year sales contract signed on October 14, 2021 with Edesur Dominicana SA, one of the local public electricity distribution companies.

Villarpando, whose total investment represents approximately 120 million dollars, will thus contribute to sustainable growth and help create nearly 250 jobs.

Martin Rocher, vice-president in charge of Total Eren’s activities in America, explains: ‘Through this project, Total Eren meets the Dominican government’s need to diversify its energy mix with clean, competitive and reliable electricity.’
