PARIS (Reuters) – TotalEnergies announced on Tuesday the launch of the construction of a first floating wind farm in France off the coasts of Gruissan and Port-La-Nouvelle in the Mediterranean.

Shareholder up to 20% of the project, the oil group, which is developing at a steady pace in renewable energies and electricity, indicates in a press release that the start of production of the farm is planned by 2024.

This farm will consist of three wind turbines, each with a capacity of 10 megawatts and mounted on steel floats.

The wind turbines will be connected to the Electricity Transport Network (RTE) via an undersea cable.

“This project is part of TotalEnergies’ strategy of developing floating wind power, which allows access to deeper sites, further from the coast and to take advantage of greater wind resources”, underlines the group in a statement.

At the end of April, TotalEnergies announced the acquisition of Core Solar to strengthen its position in the renewable energy sector in the United States.
