(Boursier.com) — Aramco and TotalEnergies have awarded the $11 billion engineering and construction (EPC) contracts for the ‘Admiral’ complex, a world-class petrochemical site backed by the Satorp refinery in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
A signing ceremony took place in Dhahran in the presence of Amin H. Nasser (Chairman and CEO of Aramco) and Patrick Pouyanné (Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies).

The awarding of the EPC contracts for the main treatment units and associated facilities marks the start of the construction works of this joint project, following the final investment decision in December 2022. Integrated into the existing platform of Satorp, the new petrochemical complex will house the largest mixed feed steam cracker in the Gulf, with a production capacity of 1.65 million tonnes of ethylene and other industrial gases per year.

This expansion project should attract more than 4 billion dollars of additional investments in various fields of industrial activities (carbon fibers, lubricants, special fluids, detergents, additives, automotive parts and tires) and create approximately 7,000 jobs, direct and indirect in the country.

EPC contracts have been awarded to:
– Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd for a mixed load steam cracker with a nominal capacity of 1,650 kilotonnes per year (kta) of ethylene and other industrial gases as well as installations, flares and interconnection systems for the main packages of the site ;
