TotalEnergies member of an international coalition to support e-gas – 03/18/2024 at 6:23 p.m.

(AOF) – TotalEnergies is joining forces with seven large international companies (Engie, Mitsubishi Corporation, Osaka Gas, Sempra Infrastructure, TES, Tokyo Gas and Toho Gas) to create an international coalition (“e-NG Coalition)” aimed at supporting the development of the industrial sector and the use of e-gas (or “e-NG” in English), a synthetic natural gas produced from renewable hydrogen and CO2. The aim is to accelerate the development of e-NG in a reliable, affordable and sustainable manner.

The coalition aims to promote the use of e-NG and support the emergence of a global market; encourage the support of public policy makers and the harmonization of applicable regulations and standards; and strengthen collaboration between different stakeholders, throughout the value chain and across geographies.

e-NG can be transported and/or liquefied and then marketed like natural gas using existing infrastructure. It can therefore be used by end customers without modifying their installations, which makes it a particularly interesting synthetic fuel to support their decarbonization efforts.

TotalEnergies is currently studying the “Live Oak e-NG” project alongside Tree Energy Solutions (TES), with the aim of producing 100,000 to 200,000 tonnes of e-NG per year in the United States by 2030.

The e-NG coalition will thus benefit from the expertise that TotalEnergies acquires through this project, as well as its recognized know-how in the production of renewable electricity, the management of large projects, gas liquefaction, and the production of green hydrogen.
