PARIS, Aug 29 (Reuters) – TotalEnergies on Monday unveiled a commercial agreement for the transport and sequestration on the Norwegian continental shelf of CO2 captured at a site of Norwegian fertilizer maker Yara in the Netherlands.

Under the agreement, which TotalEnergies says is the first of its kind in the world, 800,000 tonnes of CO2 per year will be captured, compressed and liquefied in the Netherlands, then transported to the Northern Lights site in Norway from of 2025.

The CO2 will be permanently stored in geological layers around 2,600 meters below the seabed, off Øygarden.

Northern Lights is a joint venture of TotalEnergies Equinor and Shell.
