(Boursier.com) — Saft affiliate TotalEnergies, has won a major contract with Meridian Energy to deliver New Zealand’s first large-scale grid-connected BESS. Located in Ruak?k?, on the country’s North Island, this 100 megawatt (MW) BESS will help improve the stability of the national grid as the production of intermittent renewable energies increases in New Zealand.
The BESS is the first stage of a project that will include the construction by Meridian Energy of a 130 MW solar farm on the same site.

Saft provides a fully integrated solution for the Ruak?k? BESS, including the supply of batteries and power conversion devices, installation, commissioning and 20 years of operational services. With an entry into service scheduled for the second quarter of 2024, this BESS will have a storage capacity of 200 megawatt-hours (MWh), which will meet the demand of the local network for approximately two hours.
