Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, the crazy battle royale, will no longer be supported by developers

Available since June 2018, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds had, when it launched, attracted a very large number of players, since a peak of 30,000 simultaneous users on Steam had been recorded. Landfall, in charge of its development, had even specified that 3 million downloads were counted, although a free trial had allowed this beautiful highlight.

Three and a half years later, the game which was not a serious project will no longer evolve, as indicated by the developers on Steam. Despite a switch to free-to-play and a few content updates, players didn’t stay, largely due to all kinds of problems and a faulty anti-cheat. However, servers remain openbut we don’t know for how long, it’s a safe bet that they will close in a few months.

Although the numbers weren’t as good as when it was released, TABG still reached a peak of 1,500 players, which is still very respectable. Many other battle royales, serious or not, have been wrecked since the democratization of the genre a few years ago. We are thinking in particular of The Culling 2, which had a very short lifespan, or even Radical Heights, which failed to retain its players despite having good ideas. Recently, it was Ubisoft’s battle royale, Hyper Scape, which announced the closure of the servers, due to a lack of players. With fierce competition from PUBG, Fortnite and Apex Legends, it is very hard to stand out and create a community, in the long term.
