On Wednesday, France became the first country in Europe to break the 200,000 new corona infection mark. In no other country in Europe have so many people been infected with the virus within 24 hours as in our neighbors.
The dramatic increase in numbers prompts the French government to take drastic measures from the new year. Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Monday that significantly stricter rules would apply from January 3rd. For example, a home office requirement will be introduced, and a mask requirement will apply in city centers – including outdoors.
In addition, the government is taking new, drastic measures. She wants to ban eating and drinking in cinemas and theaters in the future. Even in long-distance traffic, such as on the train or on domestic flights, the consumption of food and drinks should no longer be allowed.
Discussions in Switzerland too
Castex announced that the ban on eating and drinking, especially in long-distance traffic, would «exercise reason». Above all, it is about “that travelers do not take off their mask for a long period of time”.
In Switzerland, too, only a few days ago a discussion about a ban on eating and drinking on public transport flared up. Again and again, mask refusers caused trouble in public transport. For example, by chewing on their sandwich for hours and not putting on a mask. However, the public transport companies reported that there was “no increase” in mask refusers.
The BAG informed Blick that if necessary, SBB would be approached again to discuss the means and strategies that could be used to improve compliance with the mask requirement. (zis)
