“Hard weeks and months”
Laschet: Improving the fight against pandemic

NRW Prime Minister Laschet calls for the deployment against the corona virus and its consequences to be reorganized across parties. Management has to get better. At the same time, he prepares citizens for new restrictions. Nevertheless, there is reason for hope.

The CDU boss and North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Armin Laschet called in an Easter message to improve the fight against the corona pandemic “in a new attempt” across party lines and at all levels. The citizens expected from the politicians “that we give everything to get our country through the crisis and to end it soon”, he said in his message to the citizens of North Rhine-Westphalia.

That is why “engagement across party lines is so important”. “Federal, state and local authorities, we have to do it together,” added Laschet. He admitted mistakes in the previous fight against Corona: “Management has to get better. Our decision-making paths are clearer.”

The NRW head of government emphasized that it was “a tough, exhausting fight” against an invisible opponent. Because of the more contagious virus mutations, it “became even more difficult”. That is why this year is for many “a quiet, quiet, for many a lonely Easter”.

“New Restrictions”

“We have tough weeks and months ahead of us, you know that as well as I do, with new restrictions,” Laschet said to the citizens. The workforce in the intensive care units are already “often at the end of their tether”. In view of the ongoing corona vaccinations, there is “every reason to hope that the situation will improve step by step”.

Laschet announced that it would expand the corona tests. This brings “light into the dark field of infections” and opens up “new possibilities in dealing with the pandemic”. He called on citizens to take advantage of the test offer. “It helps that you protect yourself and your fellow human beings and that we discover infections more quickly,” emphasized the Prime Minister.

At the end of his message, Laschet wished the citizens “a happy and blessed Easter” and called on them to stick together and to take care of one another. “At Easter, Christians celebrate the victory of life over death,” said the CDU politician. “We cannot celebrate the victory over the deadly corona virus these days. But I am certain: in the end, life will win,” added Laschet.
