Even during the 1st stage on Saturday, mass falls caused shock moments at the Tour de France. And now this! Even during the 3rd stage, which leads over 183 km from Lorient to Pontivy, the riders do not get through safely.
Only 40 km have been completed, and several riders are hit by a bump. And that of all things in a section that is dry. Because both before and after the drivers have to struggle with heavy rain at times.
Shoulder dislocated – continued
Tony Martin (De) and Geraint Thomas were among the victims of the falls. The Briton, who is considered to be one of the favorites for overall victory, stays on the road for a long time and has to be cared for. Apparently, he dislocated his shoulder when he fell, which is quickly adjusted again. And then Thomas actually bites his teeth! He gets back on his bike, has several helpers and needs around 20 km to make up for the three-minute gap on the field. The 35-year-old is definitely tough.
Robert Gesink, who is also involved in the fall, has less luck. Primoz Roglic’s team-mate cannot continue the race.
At the very front there is also a Swiss causing a sensation. Michael Schär belongs to the breakaway group. After almost 80 km it is braked by a defect. But his companions at the front have slowed down so that he doesn’t lose touch. Only the lead on the field has shrunk a bit in the meantime.
The third stage of the Tour de France is currently still in full swing.
