Tour de France: winner, stages, “exceptional” bonuses … The prizes for the 2023 edition

In addition to the traditional jerseys and points to win during each stage, the 176 riders entered in the Tour de France can win the jackpot in the 2023 edition. As detailed by the race organizers, a global prize pool of 2 .3 million euros is released this summer. It will be awarded to teams and riders who have distinguished themselves on the roads of France. What is more, this overall allocation is slightly increased compared to last year, since it was around 2.28 million euros in 2022.

500,000 euros for the big winner

In detail, the prize money specifically allocated to the classified runners amounts to exactly 1,138,800 euros, and it is more or less important according to the general classification. Thus, the big winner of the 2023 edition will walk away with 500,000 euros. A second place secures the sum of 200,000 euros, and a third place earns 100,000 euros.

It should be noted that the wearer of the yellow jersey will earn a bonus of 500 euros on the days when he runs with this attribute. For the green, polka dot and white jerseys, an amount of 300 euros is put into play.

For these different shirts, a bonus is also awarded at the end of the competition. The best sprinter – green jersey – and the best climber of the 2023 edition – polka dot jersey – will each win 25,000 euros, while the best youngster will receive a check for 20,000 euros.

11,000 euros for the winner of a stage

Cyclists who win one of the 21 stages on the program this summer will also be rewarded. Whoever wins a stage of the Tour will pocket the sum of 11,000 euros. A runner who finishes in second place will win half, or 5,500 euros. Finally, 2,800 euros will crown the third man of a stage.

Finally, the organizers also put into play “exceptional” bonuses throughout the course. The first runner to cross the summit of the Col du Tourmalet during the sixth stage will win 5,000 euros, as will the one who climbs the summit of the Col de la Loze in the lead during the 17th stage.

Also, runners will be honored by a jury for particular skills. The most combative of the Tour will receive 20,000 euros at the end of the Grande Boucle. And at the end of each of the three weeks of racing, the competitor considered to be the best team member will be awarded the sum of 3,000 euros.
