Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) distanced the former time trial world champion Rohan Dennis from Australia (Jumbo-Visma) by 4 seconds at the start of the 75th Tour de Romandie in the 5.12-kilometer prologue in Lausanne. Austrian Felix Grossschartner (Bora-hansgrohe) was third and lost 10 seconds to the 23-year-old Briton. Last year’s winner Geraint Thomas, teammate and compatriot of Hayter, finished fourth.

Schmid convinced

Mauro Schmid was the best of the 15 Swiss who started the jubilee tour of western Switzerland. The 22-year-old from Zurich from Team Quick-Step finished 9th, 14 seconds behind.

Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates) finished 46th, 24 seconds back. Gino Mäder (Bahrain Victorious), the biggest Swiss trump for the general classification, crossed the finish line in 57th place (27 seconds back).

The 1st stage on Wednesday leads over 178 km from Saint-Aubin-Sauges on Lake Neuchâtel to Romont FR. On the hilly route, the riders have to master 4 climbs. The anniversary tour ends on Sunday with the mountain time trial over 15.8 km from Aigle to Villars.
