Tourism balance – visitor increase! “Linz is now a city of millions”

Finally over a million visitors! The tourism industry has largely recovered after the losses of recent years. And so those responsible at Linz Tourism are happy about a record number of overnight stays in 2023.

The overnight stay balance for 2023 is the most successful in the history of Linz tourism. Throughout the year, 1,002,224 overnight stays were counted at the Linz establishments. Compared to 2022 with 846,072 overnight stays, this is an increase of 156,152 overnight stays or 18.5 percent. In the pre-Corona year 2019, overnight stays were 934,944; the current figures mean an increase of around seven percent. Arrivals in 2023 were 553,460. “Very pleasing for the entire industry” “This result is very pleasing for the entire tourism industry in Linz. This is a continuation of years of successful development. The city is perceived as an interesting destination for a variety of travel reasons. Business travelers, conference visitors and individual guests contribute to this result,” say Marie-Louise Schnurpfeil, Managing Director of Linz Tourismus, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Dieter Recknagl. And Tourism City Councilor Doris Lang-Mayerhofer is also happy: “Linz is now a city of millions – at least from a tourist perspective.” In the Linz region with the communities of Ansfelden and Kirchschlag, a total of 1,118,000 overnight stays were counted in 2023, which was an increase compared to 2019 of 67,819 overnight stays or 6.5 percent. In Ansfelden there were 102,008, in the municipality of Kirchschlag 13,768. A total of 7,618 beds. Meanwhile, the development of hotel beds can also be seen positively. While there were 5,705 in Linz in 2009, the number continued to decline until 2017, which meant there were repeated bottlenecks. As the city’s image continues to improve, demand from investors has also increased, and new houses have been built in recent years. In 2019 there were already 5,515 beds, and in 2023 the current count in June showed a number of 6,653 beds. The Linz region with Ansfelden and Kirchschlag has a total of 7,618 beds
