A hike over several days, with bivouac, represents a real immersion in the beauty of nature. But requires different equipment than day trips. So that the experience brings only happiness.
Sleeping bag
A good sleeping bag is an essential investment. Because if you sleep badly, the whole itinerant hike is wasted. The sarcophagus shape is now unavoidable: less bulky and more efficient than the rectangular one, because it is closer to the body. The comfort temperature of the sleeping bag is to be determined according to your destination, and the altitude at which you sleep. Most of the time, a temperature of + 5° C to 0° C is sufficient. Down or synthetic? Without hesitation: down. For better insulation and compression.

Mattress
Two options for the mattress: foam or self-inflating. The foam floor mat is puncture-proof, and less expensive. But much less comfortable. Our advice: choose a self-inflating mattress. Especially if you spend several nights in nature. And prefer a light and compact model.

Attempted
The tent protects against wind, rain, mosquitoes… Everything that can complicate a night in nature. A 2/3-seater model is ideal for two people. To have some storage space. An awning is also handy. To cook sheltered from the wind, if necessary. And put away your shoes at night. The top: a tent that does not exceed 2 kg. Knowing that the cheapest tents are often the heaviest.

Backpack
A hike over several days requires a larger backpack than a day hike: 45 to 55 litres. Please note: the larger the bag, the more we tend to load it. A word of advice: the loaded backpack should not exceed a quarter of its weight. Choose a model with pockets, buckles and straps, to keep certain things accessible. And above all, try it with weight in store. To be sure that its ergonomics suit your back.

Stove
Sleeping in nature also means eating in the evening near your tent. It is therefore necessary to provide a stove and fuel. Namely: butane does not tolerate negative temperatures well. To sleep in the mountains, prefer propane or isobutane. Or a butane/propane mixture. Conventional stoves are composed of only one burner. The compacts have a burner attached to the cooking pot (small saucepan). More expensive but more effective, especially in windy conditions. Do not forget: a box of matches or a lighter, to light the stove. And light cutlery.
