A young man was hospitalized in psychiatry after confessing to the murder of his mother.
A 24-year-old man was arrested and hospitalized in psychiatry after confessing Thursday to his father, the murder of his mother in Tours, the Tours prosecutor’s office announced on Friday.
The prosecution has opened a judicial investigation into the count of murder on the ascendant and entrusted the continuation of the investigations to an investigating judge.
The individual, without profession and with a clean criminal record, was arrested in the mansion he occupied with his 51-year-old mother.
The body of the victim was “found in his room lying on the floor with a scarf tied around his neck”, indicated the prosecutor of the Republic of Tours, Grégoire Dulin, specifying that the autopsy “confirmed death by asphyxiation” .
“The main suspect was immediately placed in police custody on the charge of murder on an ascendant. Making inconsistent remarks, a medical opinion was sought from the psychiatric emergencies of the University Hospital of Tours, which deemed his condition incompatible with a measure of police custody. He was hospitalized before his hearing could be carried out”, explained the magistrate in a press release.
The young man, who was not followed for psychiatric disorders according to the first elements of the investigation, was still hospitalized Friday afternoon.
According to the prosecutor, the suspect had adopted “for a few days” a “strange” behavior, in particular taking “comments evoking the death of one of his parents”.
During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the victim had sent “text messages and a call to ask for help” to relatives, explaining that his son was “delirious”.
“The investigating judge will request a psychiatric expertise to determine whether the individual was criminally responsible at the time of the act,” Dulin told AFP.
