Towards new overtime tax relief

Economists say they are skeptical about the effectiveness of the measure, which is supported by public opinion.

Since the start of the week, MEPs have been wondering about the remedies to bring to galloping inflation. Among the many devices studied in the context of the examination of the amending budget for 2022 and the bill on purchasing power, is an old friend, the reinforcement of relief on overtime. The presidential majority thus tabled an amendment to the amending budget, adopted by the finance committee, in order to raise the tax exemption ceiling for overtime, now set at 5,000 euros per year. The idea would be to increase it to 7500 euros. Its principle should be supported in the Hemicycle by the right and the RN. Unsurprisingly, the left and the unions will oppose it.
