If MultiVersus is on everyone’s lips this summer, another game may not go unnoticed this August. This is Tower of Fantasy, the direct competitor of Genshin Impact. Yet, although both gacha in free-to-play look alike, they offer very different mechanics and it could even be that players manage to co-exist on both titles at the same time. In the meantime, if you are interested in this new MMORPG, here is everything you need to know about it to be well prepared for its release.
Tower of Fantasy: Useful Information
Straight from China, it was in June 2020 that Tower of Fantasy was revealed to the general public. Developped by hotta Studio, via Perfect World, to which we owe the MMO of the same name, but also games like Forsaken Word, Star Trek Online or Neverwinter, ToF has been available in China for over a year now and has offered a beta version this year in Europe. Now the beta is over, pre-registrations are launched and we know the exact release date of the title.
Release date, time and platforms
- Tower of Fantasy will be available in Europe on Thursday August 11, 2022,
- You can start playing it right away 2:00 a.m.,
- At this time, ToF will only be downloadable on computer (via a dedicated launcher or via Steam and the Epic Game Store), on iOS and on android. No console release is planned at this time. It will probably depend on the success of the mmorpg.
Preload and weight
- With a first weight in gigas established at 20GB on phone and 30GB on PCplayers with a small connection will be happy to know that it will be possible to pre-download it on PC.
- It’s the Tuesday August 9 (probably on Wednesday August 10 at 2:00 for us but this remains to be confirmed), that you will be able to preload it.
Pre-registrations and rewards
In the meantime, you can always pre-register on the official site or on the various stores (AppStore, Google Play) in order to obtain numerous in-game rewards, including a multitude of Nucleus to summon weapons/characters!
Required configuration
If you want to enjoy the game on your phone, you will need a device capable of running Tower of Fantasy properly with, at least, a Android 7.0 or an Iphone 7. In both cases, a minimum of 4GB of RAM is recommended. On the PC side, an Intel Core i7 processor is highly recommended, as is at least 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 1060 6GB for the graphics card.

Gacha, multiplayer, exploration: what to do concretely in Tower of Fantasy?
Exploration, open world, mounts and scenario
Tower of Fantasy is an open world MMORPG where you can roam freely as is the case in Genshin Impact or in The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild. Thus, by traversing the various zones of the planet, you will be able to go in search of questsof monsters to knock down, resources to collect or mini games to participate in. You can also unlock areas on your map by going to the top of certain towers or going in search of chests that are everywhere.
To help you in these adventures that await you, you can count on your weapons to fight or destroy ores, mounts to move faster, the jet pack to propel you into the air and hover or even your friends with whom you can play since it is a game witha real multiplayer mode.
Being an RPG, Tower of Fantasy will also offer you a story in a futuristic world called Aida. So you’re not going to wander around aimlessly. You will have a common thread that will serve as your story and will be centered on your avatar. Thereafter, you can also take part in a multitude of side quests : help NPCs, kill monsters, collect specific objects or go to a point indicated on your map.
Tower of Fantasy is coming out on August 11 and we’re going back to the content it will offer when it comes out. The story that centers on the Wanderer, the quests, the exploration, the multiplayer or even the system of “classes”, discover what awaits you on the planet Aida.
Battle gameplay
Like any A-RPG, you will be able to move freely in the confrontation phases with the possibility of chaining basic moves, but also skills. The particularity of Tower of Fantasy lies in the use of weapons since each weapon has its share of skills that you can find below:
- General attack
- Dodge
- Specific skill
- Combination
As for weapons, you can use a Chakram, Scepter, Cube, Rifle/Pistol, Bow, Hammer, Scythe, Spear, Shield and Axe, Daggers, Claymore or Swordfish, and a Sword. You should also know that there are three roles in which the weapons are distributed. The first is the role of attacker or DPS, the second, that of the tank and the last that of the healer. In addition to that, you should know that there is four types of damage.
- Fire
- Ice
- Lightning
- Physical
Multiplayer: crew, guild and coop
The big advantage of Tower of Fantasy compared to Genshin Impact is none other than its multiplayer aspect. You can of course play solo but know that it is possible to share all of your adventures with friends. As in an MMO, you will also be able to meet other players in the open world, but most importantly: you will be able to create or join a guild (crew) to perform various multiplayer activities such as world bosses.
Create your own character
The second big difference with Genshin Impact lies in the possibility of creating your own character from the start of the adventure. The story takes place in a very futuristic world, you can indeed change your outfit, face and hair a few minutes after starting the game. The customization interface is very complete and you can completely create the avatar of your dreams or be inspired by many models available. Moreover, some players have already started to create models inspired by other games.
Throughout your adventure, you will have the choice between keeping the basic appearance that you will have created, or putting on the skin of another character that you will have obtained via summons.
Gacha and summons
As a free-to-play Gacha-game (free to download), Tower of Fantasy obviously offers a summoning system that works like a lottery. In the specific case of ToF, the lottery is used to obtain powerful weapons. Some of them even allow you to obtain a Simulacrum associated with it (a holographic technology that allows you to take on the appearance of a famous veteran).
In short: you can summon weapons, of greater or lesser rarity, which are sometimes associated with a Simulacrum/character. You can then either use the weapon while maintaining your own appearance, or use the weapon while taking on the appearance of the associated character. You can equip yourself with three weapons simultaneously in order to fight. You will then be able to switch between each of them to adapt to your enemies.
A pity that doesn’t reset, a better chance of getting rare characters… Here’s why Tower of Fantasy’s gacha summoning system is so much more appealing than Genshin Impact’s.
Finally, note that the launch events have already been announced. One of them will even let you get a free SSR weapon!
