Toyota is operating wells to compensate for the water supply disruption in central Japan.

A leak at a water facility in Aichi Prefecture has disrupted industrial water supplies, affecting more than 130 commercial establishments, local government officials said. These establishments include companies and factories with ties to Toyota.

Japan’s largest automaker will be able to operate as usual during the day on Wednesday and will continue to monitor the situation thereafter, the spokesperson said.

The media had indicated that the supply of industrial water would stop around 9 a.m. (0000 GMT) on Wednesday in 131 companies in 12 municipalities of Aichi prefecture, including the city of Toyota where the headquarters of the automaker is located.

But the supply had not completely stopped by 11:15 a.m., an official with the Aichi Public Enterprises Bureau told Reuters, adding it was unclear when the disruption would be repaired.

Some major assembly lines at Toyota factories in the region had already planned to halt production, before the water supply issue, due to parts shortages stemming from the COVID-19 Shanghai shutdown.
