(CercleFinance.com) – Toyota Motor Europe (TME) has started production of the new Toyota C-HR, including battery assembly for the first time in Europe, at its Sakarya site, Turkey.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey (TMMT), whose production facilities have benefited from a new investment of 308 million euros, is Toyota’s first European site to produce plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Since its launch, the Toyota C-HR has recorded cumulative sales exceeding 800,000 units. It allowed Toyota to win over a large number of new customers, so much so that the brand saw its market share increase from 4% to 7% in Europe.
‘The production of a plug-in hybrid version equipped with a locally assembled battery will further expand Toyota’s multi-technology offering serving its objective of total elimination of CO2 emissions within its European range1 by 2035’ , said Yoshihiro Nakata, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.
