Toyota: more rail freight to decarbonize

(CercleFinance.com) – Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announces the first phase of a European program aimed at decarbonizing its logistics, making greater use of rail freight.

The group has started transporting new cars by cross-Channel rail link between its logistics platform in Valenciennes and its depot in Toton, in the United Kingdom.

This new type of international freight should reduce the CO2 emitted by TME’s entire logistics network by more than 10%, and delivery times by approximately 50%.

With Getlink transporters and the CAT group, its partners, TME will initially transport some 70,000 vehicles per year, the equivalent of 270 trains.

In order to achieve TME’s target carbon neutrality in Europe, Toyota plans to convert some of its main road transport routes to rail by 2024.
