Toyota presents the Urban, its SUV designed to conquer Europe


With the Urban SUV, Toyota gives us a glimpse of its future urban electric SUV. Designed to compete with leaders in the segment such as the Peugeot e-2008, this vehicle will represent the entry level of electric made in Toyota when it is released in 2024.

A study predicted that the purchase price of electric vehicles would fall in the near future. As part of its zero-emission ambitions, Toyota is launching its latest concept, theUrban SUV, representing its full entry into electrification. More compact than the C-HR, this little electric crossover will be available in single or dual engine configurations, with the choice of two battery sizes and promises to be the cheapest in its range.

This small electric crossover is part of Toyota’s plan to offer approximately 15 zero-emission models in Europe by 2026, covering both passenger vehicles and utility vehicles. With six dedicated electric vehicles planned by 2026, Toyota aims for more than 20% of its annual deliveries in Europe are electric vehicles.

Presented during the annual Kenshiki forum in Brussels, this little electric crossover will expand Toyota’s growing range from next year. With a length of 4.30 m, a width of 1.82 m and a height of 1.62 m, the Urban SUV has a slightly shorter and narrower design than the C-HR, but a little taller. Unlike some hybrid models, it is based on a platform dedicated to electricity. Although designated as a concept, the production model should remain true to its robust style, like Toyota’s bZ models. And even though the company recently announced a major technological breakthrough in the field of batteries, no figures have been released regarding the autonomy of this future SUV.

Toyota’s road to zero emissions isn’t limited to battery electric vehicles, as a new generation of its hydrogen technology is scheduled for 2026. As a reminder, Toyota recently set the autonomy record with its hydrogen vehicle. At the same time, the Hilux range will receive partial electrification with a hybrid system light 48V in 2024.
