Since 2005, Toys for Bob belongs to Activision and therefore now to Microsoft. The studio has made a good reputation with Skylandersthen with Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy And Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time more recently. Unfortunately, for several years, it has only helped with Call of Dutya wasted talent.
Already affected by layoffs in 2021, the studio again lost employees and even its premises at the start of the year after the big wave of forced departures which affected Microsoft Gaming. This is undoubtedly the straw that broke the camel’s back, because today, Toys for Bob announces that he will become independent ! In a statementthe studio announces that it wants to become smaller and more agile again, but he still remains in discussion with Microsoft for his next project.
We’re excited to announce that Toys for Bob is becoming an independent game development studio!
Over the years, we have inspired love, joy and laughter into the child in every player. We have pioneered new licensing and hardware technologies in Skylanders. We’ve raised the bar for best-in-class remasters in Spyro Reignited Trilogy. We took Crash Bandicoot to innovative and critically acclaimed new heights.
With the same enthusiasm and passion, we believe now is the time to take the studio and our future games to the next level. This opportunity allows us to return to our roots of being a small, agile studio.
To make this news even more exciting, we are exploring a possible partnership between our new studio and Microsoft. And while we are in the early days of development for our next new game and a long way from making announcements, our team is excited to develop new stories, new characters, and new gameplay experiences.
Our friends at Activision and Microsoft have been extremely supportive of our new direction, and we are confident that we will continue to work closely together as we move forward.
